Climate of the Nation 2014

30 Jun

Climate of the Nation 2014.

Australia is slamming out the backdoor and bolting to the dunny because this government is so drunk on its ideological view of advancing carbon pollution for short term $$ gain, that we are all being crapped, headfirst, into the thunder box.

Yes, I feel that strongly about it.

Climate of the Nation 2014  We are destined to be the top dinosaurs in the refuse of climate history. Unless we, the people, do something about it now, the Australian Abbott-led government will, quite literally, shaft us not only in terms of climate health, but in the economy as well, whilst at the same time claiming economic superiority and blaming everyone but themselves for their own decisions.

A democratic government is made up of people who are just like the rest of us, but who we the people have chosen to REPRESENT US. Do you truly believe that those on the Australian government benches are representing the width and breadth of Australia? They are not. They are representing an ideology and it is almost exclusively beholden to mining and the largest corporations.

Their style of implementation is one of authoritarian paternalism. They claim grown up, sensible, thoughtful, deliberate decisions. They don’t claim adult. They don’t claim mature. They don’t claim inclusive; nor informed; nor do they claim a focus on the changing century. They claim grown up, which is what children call it. And they claim deliberate.

It’s not hard to accept the word deliberate. It is very deliberate. They know what they are saying. They also know what they intend us to hear them saying. Their campaign, ongoing even this far out from the election, is very deliberate indeed. It has nothing to do with open democracy, nor the long term, nor is it representative.

It we do not want to be led into a deliberate steaming pile of dinosaur coprolite then we had better become both mature and deliberate sooner rather than later, and tell this government that they are to REPRESENT US, not both keep us in the dark and fed us lines that they are the grown ups so we must just trust them.

I don’t trust them. I don’t trust any government, even when it’s one I voted for – which I did not do for this one – 100%. To live in a free and open democracy, which we’ve prided ourselves on here in Australia, and which is delivered a world enviable lifestyle, means staying aware, staying informed, and most of all ensuring OUR REPRESENTATIVES actually REPRESENT US not just in lip service, not just in intent, but in outcome.

A government which chooses to ignore the people, to refuse to tell them the answers to even basic questions, one which sneers, dismisses, blames and openly lies, is not one which either represents the people or is democratic.

We might not get rid of this ‘bad government’, to use one of their favourite simplistic phrases, in the short term, but we can and must lobby OUR REPRESENTATIVES to ensure they actually REPRESENT US and let them know, if they don’t, they are the ones facing the drop into the smelly darkness of the steaming heap.

If we don’t, it’s history for the Australia we’ve all worked so hard to build for ALL AUSTRALIANS.

Refugees at Sea; 29th June

It is time we Australians draw the line in the sand and demand ‘our’ government not only listen to us, the people they ‘represent’ but demand they tell us exactly what is going on with asylum seekers.

Some good news arrived last night. Member for Perth Allanah MacTiernan was on Christmas Island on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday night, she saw increased “on Water” activities and  local Islanders were telling her that there was “A Boat” and then later changing that to “Two Boats”. She was also told of the sudden arrival of AFP personnel and the staff at the concentration detention centre. MacTiernan passed this information on to the ABC and to RRAN Fremantle organiser, Jasmina Brankovich on Saturday night.

Some parts of social media were a little skeptical as the reports, correctly, were “unconfirmed” yet, shortly after,  the ABC published the information online. Ms MacTirnan has since appeared on ABCnews24 and confirmed all that was reported.

The Fate of the Prime Minister

 MY BAD FEELINGS

Several days ago I wrote a tweet about tony abbott. Capitals are for proper nouns and I can find nothing proper about the man who is our current Prime Minister.

The tweet was a alanreference to Alan Jones comment last year that Julia Gillard’s father had “Died of Shame”. I suggested that if tony abbott’s father had any sense of decency, that he would “die of shame”.

I was rightfully criticised for stooping to “THEIR level”. This made me take a closer look at my current feelings about our leadership.

I am angry that I was lied to. I am angry that commonsense has gone out of the window and that we now have Government by theory. That science has been relegated to a minor role. That we lost the best PM…

Fear and loathing as Aussies join fight – The Drum (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Fear and loathing as Aussies join fight – The Drum (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).

The first concern is the way the Abbott Government is conflating this issue, serious as it is, with the issue of asylum seekers and ‘border protection.’ It is a TAMPA and babies overboard dog whistle meant to not only make people afraid of refugees but to excuse the ongoing brutality with which we treat them when they arrive in Australia. It is not only despicable, but it is pure self-interest politics and must be recognised as such.

Is Abbott a Christian or just a Catholic?

29 May

I, too, was raised Catholic. I always had questions and doubts. It was the hypocrisy that I could not come to terms with. The Catholic Church is a cult, a ghoulish one at that, and it’s minions are controlled by men who crave power and are highly political in their use and wielding of that power. It is misogynistic, greedy and authoritarian to the point of zealotry. Some say there is no such thing as an ex catholic, only a lapsed catholic. This is not so. Like many cult children, ex catholics are just as capable of recognising and fighting the brainwashing. It takes time and deliberation and at times is both frightening and painful. However, it can be achieved and never do eyes see so clearly. The agenda of this current government, led by Abbott, is intense in its zealotry and political ideology and it is constantly and irrevocably underscored by their catholicism. Their method of behaviour and governance, their attitude to opposition from any quarter, and their long term aims and goals are as far from democracy as the church itself. As for their christianity, Gandhi could have been talking solely about them: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

The Australian Independent Media Network

photo 1The article on the AIMN by Sean Stinson, May 25th entitled, “CATHOLIC SCHOOLBOYS RULE” was so well presented, I thought it deserved a follow up article to further articulate its message. Twistie 1, who was one of several who joined in the discussion captured the mood best for me when he wrote, “I have little doubt that Abbott is a psychopath who is incapable of empathy. He uses religion as a facade against his inherent wickedness. He is not the first, and will undoubtedly not be the last, to do so.”

As one who endured the cruelty of Catholic Church teaching in the 1950/60s, it doesn’t surprise me that so many like me still carry the psychological baggage Catholic teaching generated about Hell and Purgatory. It wasn’t until my late forties that I began to see through the facade of Catholic teaching and its inherent evil. I think I…

A wolf in sheep’s clothing

17 May

This just about sums it up.

The Australian Independent Media Network

WolfInSheepsClothing As the dust settles from Tuesday night’s wrecking ball budget, I have been thinking about how this happened. How is it possible that Australia was conned into voting for Abbott and his fellow Liberal and National psychopaths ? There’s a fairly obvious answer to this, and two clear culprits. First of all, Abbott and his LNP colleagues lied to the electorate about what their real plans for Australia were. And second, the mainstream media let the people of Australia down by refusing to pre-warn them about Abbott’s real plans.

Abbott knows as well as I do that the Liberals would never win an election if they were truthful with voters. So they lied. Lying has become natural to them, because without lies they have no chance of power. But let’s make something very clear right now. Anyone who didn’t see this budget coming, wasn’t looking. When I say they weren’t…

The Coalition Plan for a Better Australia

8 May

Satire. Or is it?

The Australian Independent Media Network

Real solutions The first thing we need to do is get rid of the toxic carbon tax.  It is destroying the joint.  After all, emissions went up.  Ok, I know that greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector are down about 7.6 per cent since the carbon tax was introduced, or the equivalent of about 14.8 million tonnes, and that demand has dropped as businesses and individuals adopt energy efficiency methods, but emissions from coalmine expansion and new gas plants have been soaring.  And that’s what we want!  More coal and more gas to make our country better.

And as for renewable energy, competition like that is bad for the country.  It puts up prices.  I know normally one would consider competition a good thing but not in this case.  Have you seen those wind farms?  They are U.G.L.Y they ain’t got no alibi they ugly uh huh they ugly.  I know…
